BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - BSG 75

Sponsorship opportunities available ------ Ask us about them!

by Marco Scheloske

Scale: 1/9600

47,875 survivors in search of a home - called Earth...

”Yes, we are tired. Yes, there is no relief. Yes, the Cylons keep coming after us time after time after time. And yes, we are still expected to do our jobs!”

In my eyes this is the most heroic spaceship ever - the mighty and brave BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Fighting for the last survivors of mankind, protecting them against the evil Cylons. The new GALACTICA is even more heroic, showing us the firepower that we always expect from a ship called a „Battlestar“, but we never saw in the old series...

This is the small Alliance resin kit of the new Battlestar GALACTICA. It was cast in the first batch and had a few problematic areas, especially on the port side just in front of the first arm of the flightpod, but a little Aves putty does magic there.

I made a few changes to enhance it a bit:

  • I drilled holes for the thrusters at the top and bottom of the main engines
  • I made a new patch for the base
  • I made decals for the main engines to let them ''glow''
  • I added clear plastic and grid decals to create the starboard museum windows

The model got a grey basecoat; then the armour was painted with ''Fortress grey'' from Citadel. A wash with dark grey oil color brought out all the wonderful detail and added a plating effect to the armour, and finally a drybrushed finish with very light grey to give the details their last touch. A few areas had been painted in a slightly different basecolor (i.e. the engine exhausts). The red stripes on the oustside are painted with ''Gore red'' from Citadel, the red ''lights'' inside the flightpod housings were done with pastel chalk. The base was painted with ''granite'' color to give it a structure like being made out of stone.

Last not least a brass rod was used to mount the powerful defender of the last survivors of mankind.
