C.B.S Angelshark

[Port]

By Greg Desiatov

Scale: Not stated

The ANGELSHARK is the overall battle groups command ship. All strategical decisions are planned and administered from this major vessel. It's length is over 5km long and is heavily defended with patrolling starfighters.

The Model

The C.B.S ANGELSHARK started with a 1/48th scale Monogram F1-11 aircraft. The two fuselage halves of a 1/48th scale Talon fighter were glued to the sides of the F1-11. The cockpit of the F1-11 was sawn off and then the front of the Monogram Nautilus kit was used as the nose of the battleship. The engine pod is a combination of a 1/32 & 1/72nd scale F14 Tomcat, and the 1/48th Monogram concept Stealth kit. The top of the nose hump is a couple of missiles glued on and filled with putty. The bottom pod is from a 1/24th scale Airfix Harrier jumpjet as is the top hump. The shuttle tubes on the sides are a combination of brass and plastic tubing.

Once all the parts were firmly glued together the rather large job of filling and sanding so all the parts fitted smoothly and had a unified contour. When this was done to satisfaction, a undercoat was applied to bring out any pit holes not seen earlier. These imperfection were again filled and sanded.

With the use of a steel ruler, I then drew pencil lines where I wanted to scribe panel lines into the body. Using the back of a hobby knife blade (with the tip slightly broken off) I carefully and patiently scribed the line with 3 or 4 light strokes, and again I had to do some filling and sanding to correct some of the line joints.

The next step I did was to give the whole kit a coat of gray.

For the next step a very sharp knife is required. I use a surgical scalpel for the next process. Masking tape was stuck to a piece of glass and then odd squares cut out and placed onto the model to create a balanced design. After checking that the tape was firmly stuck down, I sprayed the model with Model Masters Light Sea Grey.Once this was dry, more square pieces of tape were stuck to the model, this time smaller pieces were used followed by a coat of another shade of gray. After drying, the tape was removed with the result being the choused pattern. The whole kit was then sprayed with a gloss coat.

Unfortunately with time constraints I wasn't able to get hold of inkjet printable decal paper. The C.B.S. ANGELSHARK decals were custom designed on my computer and then laser printed onto a sheet of blank decal paper. The numbers are from my collection of decals. The whole model was then sprayed with a clear matt finish.

The cityscape within the nose are just a ton of 'greebies' from my spare parts box. These areas were painted flat black then dry-brushed with silver enamel.
