Scale: 1/18

The Icepick One is a custom aerospace racer built as a proof of concept test platform for advanced cross-species technology. Icepick One holds the current speed record for the Las Vegas to Luna Sprint, the Ceres 500,000 and Saturn Circuit the as well as several inner system asteroid run titles.

The ship's chief designer Gus McCormic found his career as an engineer supervisor at Terrafleet stagnant and unrewarding. He had aproached the base commander several times proposing ways to increase the squadrons performance but was rebuffed. When his Fleet contract was up he scraped together enough credits to begin construction on a small ship to put some of his theories to the test. He needed help though. And he found it in the person of former war hero pilot turned mercenary pilot turned unemployed pilot, Isis Kendall. Together they completed the Icepick and set a new standard for speed and manuverability.

Combining a G'tor Xurplex class"B" thrust tunnel with an Oscelor plasma converter the Icepick also uses a Terraco Fusion Systems CV-750 reactor. Gus's design includes several energy transtators that tune the reactors powerflow to the necessary frequencies to be most efficiently used by the ships componants of non human manufacture. The Bussard field projector perched above and behind the cockpit can almost double the ships range for long interplanetary flights.

A series of 21 small but powerfull reaction control thrusters give the ship fine tuned directional control while the 5 larger Plastech retro thrusters provide more radical decelleration and manuevering agility. The large intercoolers at the rear of the craft disperse the heat created by the reactor, Z-grav and inertia suppression systems.

After surviving the disaster at the Mimas Cauldron, Isis and Gus left the NASTAR circuit and now race as independants in the unlimited class competitions held in the outsystems of the Border Territories.

The Model

Dimensions: 1/18 scale 22"-L x 12 1/2"-W x 5 3/8"-H

This ship is one of several designed for a personal Sci-Fi project. The model began life as a sheet of 1/8" Sintra patterned, detailed and covered with chrome HVAC tape. I painted it with a metalic blue autobody paint then weathered it heavily with steel wool and a lighter.[ nothing looks like real carbon as real carbon...] Icepick One also features retractable landing gear, a sliding cockpit canopy, 4 large airbrakes capable of flaring open on telescoping pnuematic scissor rams and rotating pods containing the ships landing gear and a set of retrothrusters. The ship is built like a stop-motion model and can be displayed in several positions.
