The Nebulon Racer is the creation of an avid racer and Jedi-Lore buff. Using the legendary Jedi ships The Nebulon Ranger and The Sun Gem as his basis he combined and updated the designs to form The Nebulon Racer. It uses the same hinged wing design as its predecessor, but incorporates its landing gear in this design to save internal space for more speed-inducing components. The ship feature 16 variable thrust engines that provide incredible manuverability and performance. On the outside of the wings, two prototype hyperspace engines make it faster than any other ship its size. The main propulsion is a high yield vector engine mounted to the aft of the primary hull. The Nebulon Racer has proved itself to be an unstopable competitor, taking first place in every race since its creation.

The Model

Looking at the current trends of retro-influences cars (such as the PT Cruiser and Prowler) I decide to apply that concept to the Star Wars universe. I combines the look of several of the ships in the Tales of the Jedi time era, and modified and updated them for a more "modern" craft. The model is completely scratchbuilt from styrene and a few brass rods.

The ship was built in 12 different subassemblies over the course of two months. It has a 20" wingspan. and is quite heavy for its size. The entire base hull was covered by individually trimmed "armor" plates. As a result I gave it a much simpler paint scheme so to let the detail of the ship itself shine through. The hinged landing gear system required everything that I remebered of high school geometry to complete. The gear itself joins into the detail on the under side of the wings when in flight, but is functional on the outer sides of the wings when landed.
