Warp Sled Racing - Klingon Style

NEVER leave a bored Klingon stuck on an interstellar junk yard. They get inventive. Especially if being inventive is the only way off that rock.

Thus was “Warp Sled Racing” begun, as a desperate attempt to avoid permanent incarceration on an abandoned asteroid junk yard. The Klingon Officer (who shall go un-named) liked the experience of risking life and limb in an open cockpit barely spaceworthy vehicle so much that he got other Klingons involved in this mildly suicidal sport. Not to be thought cowardly, other races joined in and a new sport was born.

Due to the the arcane beginning, certain conventions have to be maintained. The vehicles MUST be open cockpit. ALL courses are in open space, often from asteroid base to asteroid base. All communication must be on the old “Citizens Band” frequencies (leading to phrases like “Gigawatt Linear” and “Flaming Rubber Duck”).
Keeping the entrants alive in this sport has led to some exciting breakthroughs in life support design and personal anti-radiation force fields, not to mention trauma medicine.

The Model

The Yellow Peril began life as a Moonscope car - and the nacelles grew out of teeny WW II submarines. Little was actually changed, thanks to George Barris’ creativity of design. The ‘warp core’ lights blue, and the ‘anti-matter carburetors” flicker green.
