USS Retroprise

By Brent Byerly

I always wondered what a Star Trek style starship would look like when combined with the "sparkler in the back" spaceships from early science fiction serials. I guess you could call this one the "Retroprise." This is a scratchbuilt mostly wooden starship model that I put together one rainy Sunday afternoon. The only non-wood items are the screw cap that serves as the bridge, clothing jewels on the nacelles and the toothpaste cap that makes a nice impulse, thruster, sparkler exhaust thingy in the rear. Check out those rocket engines strapped to the end of the nacelles. Made them from dollhouse flower pots. I finished with brushed on acrylics. She's got the classic bullet shape while sporting elements of a saucer section and warp nacelles. While she's not perfect I feel it gets the idea across and I'm fairly proud of her.
