Hunted Hunter

By Guillermo D. Centeno

This is my first attempt for a 1:1 scale scratchbuilt head of one of my favorite Sci-Fi characters: The Predator. Mainly based on first movie version (the best for my taste), the model has a polystyrene foam head as a basic volume, covered with several layers of mask-tape, white common glue and a final coat of DAS putty where I worked the skin texture and facial details. I chose this material because it was easy to keep fresh, just covering with a wet drag and plastic film. That gave me the right time to work it all as I wish, and then leave it in the open to let it dry. After that it received a mate varnish coat to avoid surface from cracking. Open mandibles has an inner core of 1/8" wire, covered with several loops of mask-tape. Teeth were made of a+b putty glued to the mandibles with superglue (and metallic pins inside both ends). Each one of the 40 rastas consists in a sewed cone of tight raincoat fabric (thanks to my mother in law :) filled in with polyurethane foam (the one used on roof isolation) to give volume and lose weight. The scratchbuilt blaster was made with more than 100 small pieces from the most diverse origin (you better don't ask). Finally the whole model was painted using mainly airbrush acrylic colors for priming and first dots and shadows, and then a lot of hand-brush detailing. I mount the head on a hunt-trophy-plaque to symbolize the title of this model.
