by Al Petrie Scale: 1/35In the early 1920s, Professor Challenger successfully explored the "Lost World" in South America. Tales of his exploits resonated with Adolph Hitler, who imagined the dinosaurs found there to be proof of the superiority of the Aryans. Once having consolidated power in Germany in the early 1930s, the Nazis wasted no time scouring the globe for items of unique interest, and were very keen to retreive some of the dinosaurs for their own nefarious purposes. Bringing back some Tyrannosaurs, Brontosaurs, and a couple of Hadrosaurs, along with a breeding pair of Triceratops made the Large Lizard exhibit at the Hamburg zoo the envy of the world's palentologists. When the war swung against the Germans, there was an attempt to use the dinosaurs as weapons. Initially, the T-Rexes were taken out and trained to attack Soviet forces, but once the bloodlust instinct kicked in, they were uncontrollable. |

One particular incident ended in the total elimination of an
SS division by three hungry T-Rexes. The triceratops seemed to hold more
promise, as they could flip a tank over with their strong neck muscles, and
had an armoured shield around their head. However, after the initial shock
of being menaced by a big hissing reptile, Soviet troops found that mortar
fire made short work of the Triceratops...and that they also tasted just
like chicken. The entire PanzerSaur unit was wiped out in several days.
The Model Tamiya, 1/35 scale Triceratops, stock from box, with "ambush" scheme painted on. The Dino-Jockey was an Italeri German soldier, and the saddle was made from Plastiscene. The bucket was scratchbuilt. Image: Front view Image: Rear view |
