When the Klingons conquered the Federation and overtook the spacedocks, they came across some newer Federation ships still in production, most notably the Intrepid (Voyager) class ships. They wre impressed with the new technology and found this design compatible withtheir fleet. As a result, a superior version of the current Bird of Prey - stronger and faster - was put into production. Even the cloaking technology was improved.

Although thse ships are painted the more traditional Klingon green, each ship's wing configuration is uniquely painted so as to be recognizable for its captain.

The Model

For the most part, the model's asssembly was straightforward. The wings and the third pylon/warp engine were affixed with 5 minute super epoxy glue. (I didn't want the wings to fall off, though it took me three tries to get it right). To give the impression that the wings go up and down I applied a piece of strip styrene on the top/middle section of the secondary hull. On top of that, I affixed a slightly modified piece from the ERTL cardassian Galor (it's the back of the ship with the pointy parts trimmed down - it has almost a Y shape).
